Moments

Accidentally took a screen shot when I preparing to send my sister a birthday video. Ended up taking a few more and this was the result. Sometimes you've just got to make fun of yourself.

“[A] quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself, always a laborious business." - A. A. Milne

Look at this.

Marc Chagall

New poet-artist discovery! Can't believe I haven't come across him before.

The country which is in my soul
Is mine alone.
I enter without a passport.
Like me,
It knows my sadness
And my solitude.
It numbs me
And shrouds me with its heavy scent.

For me the gardens flower.
Flowers are my creation.
The streets belong to me
But there are no houses,
They were destroyed in early childhood.
Its inhabitants roam in the air
In search of a home;
They dwell in my soul.

For this reason I smile
When my sun is barely shining,
Or I cry
Like a light rain
In the night.

There was a time when I wore two heads.
There was a time when these two faces
Covered themselves with an amorous dew
And were based on the scent of a rose.

Now it seems the same
To me when I return.
I look ahead
Towards a high portal
Behind which some walls spread themselves
Where faded thunder sleeps
And light breaks through.

The country which is in my soul
Is mine alone.

Preach Louis!

Ah, Sunflower

Uncontainable emotions spilled from my eyes to the courthouse floor,
I thought we had all made promises to never grow up.
And yet, through tear-filled eyes I watched as she said "I do."
Her smile, her dress, even her tears were befitting of her name.

- - Italy - -

Our bicycle tires streaked the hills,
We painted our names on the mountain that day,
Yelling in exhilaration as the mist of the waterfall relieved our sun burnt faces.

You demand as I tiptoe around the echo of your voice.

Song-Poem thing

Clean up the dusty cobwebs in your mind,
Find treasure underneath piles of time,
The tickling of dust particles,
Remind of rays of light- bright illuminating your dark insides,

You will wake in a daze to find yourself beyond time,
Waiting for that ray of sunshine,
To dust you softly,
As you (s)tumble gently,
Into euphoria

*My very amateur attempt at writing a song. Wrote this last summer in the early hours of the morn. It does have a tune, but felt it was less embarrassing to share in written form...

Say whaaaat

I graduated, with my Masters in Teaching, on June 15th. It was a magical, surreal, happy, beautiful day. And the best part is I'm DONE. As for the future, well Dr. Seuss says it best:

“You'll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You'll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left... And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains.”

Reflections

A couple weeks ago I was going through my closet attempting to get rid of old clothes as well as pack for a trip to NY. As I was looking through my dresses I started noticing a pattern. 90% of my dresses are BLUE! Blue isn't necessarily my favorite color nor did I ever intentionally set out to buy clothes of that particular color. Why didn't anyone say something to me? Would it have been so hard to say "that's a nice dress but don't you have one that looks EXACTLY LIKE IT?" I then hurriedly began to organize my entire closet by color, as one does, distressed that without ever actively choosing it blue might just be my favorite color. Subconsciously my mind was telling me something.

To top it all off, in the midst of writing this post it dawned on me... this very blog has the word blue in it!! Why? (You might ask) I DON'T KNOW! So, my next course of action was to Google it. This sums up my findings:

Blue is serene and tranquil, the color of peace and contentment. Thanks to its calming effects, blue is the color of choice for the many hospital nurseries and studies show that when sitting in a blue room, most people report feeling quiet and settled. If blue is your favorite color you love harmony, are capable, reliable, and sensitive and always make an effort to think of others.

All I could think, while reading through different websites, was how do they come up with this stuff? My findings gave no answers about me. Instead they led me to the next question: If I naturally gravitate towards blue things what else don't I know about myself?

To be continued...

These words...

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its lovliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darkn'd ways
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon,
Trees old and young, sprouting a shady boon
For simple sheep; and such are daffodils
With the green world they live in; and clear rills
That for themselves a cooling covert make
'Gainst the hot season; the mid-forest brake,
Rich with a sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms:
And such too is the grandeur of the dooms
We have imagined for the mighty dead;
An endless fountain of immortal drink,
Pouring unto us from the heaven's brink.

The little things

I don't know about you.. but I am all about the little things in life. I find that whenever things are looking down it is always something small that lifts my spirits. A random act of kindness, an added flourish to a mundane thing, an unexpected encounter, the right song, a phone call, snail mail, flowers- the list goes on! So, with that being said, I am going to start posting things that put a smile on my face and I hope they do the same for you! Here are a few recent things that made me happy :)

If Teacups Could Talk

Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of toast and tea .
T.S. Eliot

Come and share a pot of tea,
My home is warm and my friendship’s free.

Happy Mother's Day!

Did I mention how very thankful I am to my mom for putting up with me all these years?

Been working on my TPA (Teacher's Performance Assessment) all day, the last step to getting my teacher certification, and of course music and food are the two things helping me stay sane. Thank you John Denver... so calming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WmqmTFkG9Q

To make up for lack of posts...

The purse you gave me is unraveling at the seams,

Clinging on by a thread to my shoulder’s edge,

Pushing against my side, nudging persistently.

At one time each crease whispered of a beaming smile stretching to the sun, pistachios, and cobblestones paving the streets of Italy. That paved a way into my heart.

Now the purse is worn and tired. Slowly and undeniably the stitching separates, loosens, unties.

It sags, heavy though it holds nothing but air. Nothing but air. Do you see?

The purse you gave me has seen the world. Now it seeks the ever evasive stream of memories and echoing laughter just beyond its reach.

Every now and then it catches two staring brown eyes blinking in its direction. Only to see them turn distractedly leaving a trail of dust particles swirling, sighing, scattering onto it's bare dull green skin.

Hello San Francisco

"It's an odd thing, but anyone who disappears is said to be seen in San Francisco. It must be a delightful city and possess all the attractions of the next world." Oscar Wilde

"Newly formed whitish fog filtering through the harp strings of the Golden Gate Bridge and then puffing out its chest as though pleased with its dramatic entrance; but the only applause is the quiet lapping of the waves as they disappear under the silent mass." Herb Caen 1949

A Physics

When you get down to it, Earth
has our own great ranges
of feeling -- Rocky, Smoky, Blue --
and a heart that can melt stones.

The still pools fill with sky,
as if aloof, and we have eyes
for all of this -- and more, for Earth's
reminding moon. We too are ruled

by such attractions -- spun and swaddled,
rocked and lent a light. We run
our clocks on wheels, our trains
on time. But all the while we want

to love each other endlessly -- not only for
a hundred years, not only six feet up and down.
We want the suns and moons of silver
in ourselves, not only counted coins in a cup. The whole

idea of love was not to fall. And neither was
the whole idea of God. We put him well
above ourselves, because we meant,
in time, to measure up.
